He continued his Tufts affiliation as a faculty member, teaching both restorative dentistry and root canal therapy to dental students. He also has presented continuing education programs to dentists on matching porcelain crowns to the patient's natural teeth, as well as crown and bridgework construction. James is a Fellow of the Academy of Dental Science, the country's oldest and most respected dental organization. James is also a past President of the Greater Boston Dental Society, and a winner of Boston Magazine's award for best dentist in Boston.

The many enthusiastic patients who have had James improve their smiles with cosmetic dentistry are a primary source of the many new patients who arrive daily at The Hirshberg Dental Group.

James lives in West Newton with his wife, Diane, three children and two dogs. In his free time, James is an avid windsurfer, snowboarder, tennis player and surfer.
